The Toughest Sheriff inThe Country is Raising Money to Stop Amnesty for Immigrants

Today Sheriff Joe Arpaio sent out a mass appeal to raise money to fight a perceived movement by Democrats to grant Amnesty to all immigrants who are in this country illegally.

Arpaio is well known for his battle against illegal immigrants in Arizona. He is also well known for his tough stance against crime in Arizona and touts a strong  popularity among Arizona voters.

Arpaio’s battles were not limited to criminals and immigrants. He has resisted  Janet Napolitano’s attempt to stop his enforcement of Federal Immigration laws when Napolitano was Governor of Arizona.

THE FOLLOWING IS ARPAIO’S BLOG

Dear Fellow Americans,

The White House and Congress are mobilizing against Americans who oppose Amnesty and support secure borders!White House and Congressional Leaders just held meetings with leaders the Southern Baptist Leadership Conference, the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, and the powerful National Association of Evangelicals to plot strategy to MAKE AMNESTY LAW!!!

Collectively, these organizations boast membership in the tens-of-millions! This is just the sort of base and clout the pro-Amnesty Lobby needs to kick off their national drive for Amnesty all illegals living in the United States!

We believe there should be a pathway for earned legal status and citizenship,” said a leader of one of the evangelical groups leading the charge for Amnesty.

Abortion divides us, gay rights divide us, war and peace divides us, but comprehensive immigration reform [amnesty] unites us,” said another.

While the pro-Amnesty Washington Establishment works behind closed doors to craft their latest Amnesty scheme, I need your help today. We successfully stopped their Amnesty plans in 2007. We passed SB 1070 in Arizona this year.

Together we can and will STOP AMNESTY again!

Obama ICE Appointment Signals Push for “Sanctuary Nation”
June 27, 2010, 01:51 AM
Former Houston Policy Chief Harold Hurtt is President Obama’s appointee to run the 287g program within the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This is the program intended to assist law enforcement to identify illegal aliens. This is done by empowering local law enforcement to investigate the immigration status of a criminal after their arrest.  If that sounds familiar, it should: it’s the same policy as the new Arizona law, SB-1070, signed into law this spring – and which takes effect July 29. SB 1070, of course, was sponsored by Ban Amnesty Now national co-chairman Sen. Russell Pearce (R-AZ)…..

ACTION ALERT: Amnesty Bill Gets 100th Co-Sponsor in Congress
June 25, 2010, 10:34 AM
Yesterday, pro-Amnesty leaders in Congress announced they had reached an important milestone with their 100th co-sponsor for legislation putting illegal immigrants on a pathway to citizenship. The legislation supporters claim the comprehensive immigration reform measure is not Amnesty because it requires a $500 fine and a background check in order to begin the citizenship process…..

Obama is Holding a Dead Mans Hand

If you havn’t been paying attention you might have overlooked the fact that in spite of all the critics flogging President Obama over decisions he has been making or lack thereof, his popularity is holding steady

AP Pic

For the time being Presidential advisors are banking on consistency. This explains why, for instance, the administration is willing to alienate supporters of Arizona’s new immigrant law by directing the Department of Justice to challenge the law in the nations Supreme Court.

Its risky business. If the polls generally do not show a decline in the President’s popularity when other polls show that 60% of all Americans support Arizona it makes political sense to try to capture the declining Latino vote by attempting to stop Arizona from enforcing their new immigration law. Win or lose, Obama gets kudos   for trying.

Gallop — “Hispanics’ approval of President Barack Obama’s job performance slipped to 57% in May, after falling from 69% in January to 64% in February. By contrast, whites’ and blacks’ approval of the president has been steady throughout 2010.”

Congressional mid-term candidates do not share the steady approval that is held by Obama.

According to Gallop “Americans who believe most members of Congress do not deserve to be re-elected support their position by saying representatives are simply doing a bad job, that they have been in office too long, that they are not making decisions based on what’s best for the country, or that they are too focused on self-interest, special interests, and partisanship. Relatively few cite Congress’ performance on specific issues.”

No matter what the polls are revealing today, American sentiment is traditionally slow to raise its ugly head. The actual truth about Obama’s popularity remains hidden until November 6th, 2012 when we shall learn if Obama’s political cards were a royal flush or he dealt himself a dead mans hand.

Voters Give Washington A One-Two Punch

Voters landed two punches square on the chin of the political fat cats in Washington.

It appears that the national voter sentiment about electing new candidates who lack experience and thus are not in the grasp of either the Democratic or Republican Party is alive  in California and South Carolina.

Last Tuesday voters in California passed Proposition 14.  Proposition 14 is to a politician what Arizona’s Immigration Proposition 1070 is to Illegal Immigrants.

Also on Tuesday voters in South Carolina followed up with an upper cut by electing a virtual unknown in the State primary to represent Democrats in the November Senatorial Election.

It appears that the voters in California don’t take kindly to the idea that money can buy anything, even a primary election. Tuesdays Republican primary election of Meg Whitman for governor  and Carley Fiorina for Senate seem to be evidence that if you have enough money you don’t really need good old-fashioned voter support or their donations.

Whitman spent 71 million dollars of her own money to defeat long time politician Steve Poizner.

Carley Fiorina spent 5 million dollars of her own money to win her nomination for Senator. In addition Chris Kelley who was running for California Attorney general lost his bid but not before he spent 12 million dollars of his own money.

In response to this voters passed proposition 14.  Proposition 14 is the first step to take away the two-party system in California.  It takes effect in the primary elections in 2012. This law does away with the notion that only Democrats and Republicans can vote in the State’s Primary. It also does away with the notion that you must actually be a Democrat or Republican to be a candidate in the State’s Primary election.

“Specifically, Proposition 14 provides for a “voter-nominated primary election” for each state elective office and congressional office in California. Voters can vote in the primary election for any candidate for a congressional or state elective office without regard to the political party affiliations of either the candidate or the voter. Candidates can choose whether or not to have their political party affiliation displayed on the ballot. “ (Ballot Pedia)

In South Carolina voters elected a virtual unknown person as their democratic candidate for Senate Alvin Green and sent home long time Democratic politician Vic Rawl. To add insult to injury, Mr. Green did not have a campaign, did not have campaign money, and has a questionable personal history. Rawl just doesn’t believe he lost to Green and is reportedly challenging the outcome.

No matter what happens in the November General Election, the election of Mr. Green is an acute message to Washington and a victory for Democracy.

The Bottom Line is that BP Will Not Seal the Oil Well Permanently

It is entirely possible that in the minds of the BP board of directors and management, permanently sealing off this oil well is not an option.

Reuters Picture

The intense American and British frustration and anger over the pollution of one of the earth’s salt water bodies is getting stronger  and the media is fueling this frustration with innuendos reporting based on false or incomplete information.

This latest feeding frenzy rivals and even surpasses the wrath that President George W Bush received in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

The difference between the two catastrophes is that one was created by mother nature and one was created by British Petroleum. The similarity is that both American presidents Bush and Obama  was and is inadvertently held responsible for correcting the havoc and  damage that resulted from these catastrophes.

Reuters Pelicans oil spill

Reuters Pelicans Oil Spill

While the attention is focused on who should be held responsible and how and who is going to clean up the oily mess, British Petroleum’s options and motives have not really been analyzed.

If you were an investor in British Petroleum, or a high level executive who has a bonus or stock advantage based on profit, would you do the right and moral thing and urge your company to permanently seal off a well that could possibly be the most profitable well ever drilled and one that cost millions possibly billions of dollars to drill in the name of ecology?  We all know the answer to that.

Although the spokes person(s) for British Petroleum would have us believe that they will “make it right” in the end, their statements are probably based purely on their balance sheet.

In reality the BP executives and board of directors have no alternative other than to make decisions based on economics.

Everyone  one  of them who receives a salary for making high level decisions is committed to protect and preserve the company’s financial security. That responsibility does not include kissing one of their most successful oil wells good-by even if it means telling everyone that they will pay for the cost of reclamation, lost wages etc; etc; .

Their claim is that they have sealed off wells in the past and if they could seal off this well they would.  In reality previous wells that were sealed were sealed because it was economically beneficial and had nothing to do with the good of mankind.

All this has nothing to do with our president or England’s prime minister either.  Legally it may be impossible for anyone other than BP’s board of directors to direct actions relative to this failed oil well.

And this article will either prove to be accurate or not. We shall see if BP will try to stop the oil from escaping their coffers or seal the well permanently without being forced to do so.

And we will continue to read, see and hear our news media beat the drum of political incompetence instead of doing investigative reporting and “following the money”.

The truth is to be found but probably is not lurking in the oval office. If you believe that it is, you can hear it on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show. And quite the show it is.

A 2010 Memorial Day Tribute To our Children and a Caution

Editorial

There will not be any posted  links and advertisements  here today just my thoughts.

As a veteran who served from 1966 to 1968,  I wonder what my fallen comrades would think of our country, our political leaders, and the general direction our country is taking today.

It brings a tear.  I see the same indifference to the lives of those who serve today as the souls who served back in the 60’s.   Back then (Back in the day) I was proud to step forward. I believed in what our political leaders told us.  So did my brother Rick.  And  my parents?  I think so. It was a proud nation. A proud generation. As it turned out, a generation of change.

I thought I was going to serve and protect our country from future aggression. “Protect the world” I was told.  I didn’t understand the reality of it all until many years later. Its interesting. I didn’t think much of all the protests against the war or the draft dodgers or politicians who put their careers on the line to protest but as I look back I am compelled to wonder who the realist was me or the war protesters?

Who protested this war, was it our senators, our congressmen, or our President? In 1966 it was my classmates, the future generation.  Who is protesting now?

The song  phrase “I aint no  Senator’s Son” by JC Fogerty applied to me  and  800,000 other sons.

It’s different now you say. We (Those of us who do not have a title) have smartened up.  Have we?. Our children, our babies, are once again coming home in boxes draped with flags or alive  physically and mentally maimed.  Our government is still making loop-hole filled promises  to take care of them as they did during Viet Nam .

Our survivors are getting pats  on their backs now as they did in 1966 and those who did not survive received  a piece of metal attached to  red white and blue  ribbons laid on their caskets followed by  a lawyer’s  promise   to their loved ones to end  the war.

Do not get me wrong. Our boys have served proudly. I stand as a guardian. No one should dare tarnish their brave service to me without suffering my wrath.

But as a father now,  I have walked in the shoes of my parents and my parent’s parents.  Did we fail our children? Have we allowed our leaders to send  our children into harms way the same way my parents did during the Viet Nam conflict (War) ?  And did we allow death for  political decisions like Viet Nam, a country that had the significance of a flea on a dog?   I think yes.

Are we accustomed to war? Are we sheep?  Are we  protesting  immigration laws but not a war that is taking our children our future generation? What about  our  children? Are we going to put them  on the line for sand and oil?

Let us bow our heads at the white stones standing at formation in our National Cemeteries and pay homage.  Let us read the names and honor them. Let us beg for forgiveness. Let us promise them to honor what they have sacrificed.  Let us stop future sacrifice without protest.

Most important, let us hold our leaders responsible for their decisions and their deeds.  It’s not too late for our future generations, our babies.  Our tendency to vote based on  a political party affiliation  rather than on a candidates character should to change.

Those of you who vote purely based on party lines are  taking a huge gamble and your chips are our children, our land, our seas and our future.

Is Arizona’s Immigration and Politics a View into the Next Presidential Election?

President Obama might be more interested in the Arizona Governor’s race than any other political race in the country.

Jan Brewer who is a candidate for Governor of Arizona went from basic obscurity to a National figure in a matter of just a few months. She signed into law the toughest immigrant law in the nation. Brewer has pleased Arizona residents with her courageous defense of Arizona’s Immigration law.  She has also outraged those who think the law has racial bias overtones.

She is standing toe to toe with President Obama and the Democratic Party, who have rebuked the Arizona law, and in return she has scoffed at Janet Napolitano, her predecessor, saying:  “She (Napolitano) kind of did a 180 on the state of Arizona now that she’s secretary of homeland security. The comments that the borders are just as secure as they’ve ever been, if you would look at some of her correspondence previously, they weren’t very secure,” Brewer told reporters May 28 after signing the canvass for the May 18 special election on Proposition 100. “I’ve always said that she’s (Napolitano) turned a blind eye and is looking at it from a different perspective, sitting up there in the city of sin.” (Provided by Arizona Capitol Times)

When Brewer announced her intent to run for Governor replacing outgoing Janet Napolitano her chances of winning the Republican nomination against the likes of the infamous Sheriff Joe Arpaio were considered by most slim.

Arizona rumors were that Arpaio, who also supports the immigration law and is also a Republican, have been inaccurate. Arpaio has announced  that he is bowing out of the race for governor. If Brewer wins the nomination she could be a welcome ally for Arpaio who is probably weary of  the lack of gubernatorial support.

Let’s not forget Senator John McCain who is fighting for his political life in a primary challenge by radio talk show host JD Hayworth. In fact the Senatorial election may take a back seat to the election for governor in Arizona.  McCains previous stance on immigration has come home to haunt him.

The national spot light on Arizona’s immigration law is the last thing McCain could wish for because his previous stance on immigration has been soft. He has been forced to change/clarify his political platform.

He is now on the Arizona immigration band wagon calling for more Federal Troops to supplement the Border Patrol.  McCain is faced with the fact that  Sheriff Arpaio’s popularity is over 60% in support of  Arpaio’s past policy to enforce immigration laws if politically correct or not.

McCain wants to save his Senate seat and be included in the “clean sweep” Arizona’s voters seem to be heading for.  By passing the Arizona immigration law voters are signaling  political representatives  that they should  stop the huge influx of immigrants into the State of Arizona from Mexico or they are not going to be reelected to office.  It doesn’t appear to matter what the party affiliation is.

How do predators think?

California’s budget and Arizona’s immigration Law

As I wrote previously, I personally believe that there is nothing wrong with Arizona’s immigration law.  If you read the law and disagree I challenge you to comment on this site.

We all know that any law, whether we consider it constitutional or not, should be enforced within the “spirit of the law”.  The political inference is that this law has no good spirit, just bad, bad blah, blah spirit.

The San Diego School Board decided to make their presence and stance known to interested persons other than their students. (Mainly Arizona residents) In this case I’ll gladly assist them.

Its called teaching by example (Or something like that).  I guess the goal was to show that a stance as important as Arizona’s immigration law needed to be taken by San Diego’s  scholarly school board.

Maureen MaGee of The Tribune reported:

“Stopping short of warning students against travel to Arizona, the San Diego school board on Tuesday passed a resolution condemning the state’s new immigration law as unconstitutional.

Approved unanimously, the resolution urges Arizona to repeal legislation that will allow law enforcement to question anyone on their immigration status — and detain those who cannot prove legal residency — if stopped for reasonable cause.

At the urging of board Vice President John Lee Evans, the board eliminated an Arizona travel warning that President Richard Barrera had proposed for students and their families out of concern they may be subject to harassment or racial profiling. However, the San Diego Unified School District will develop a policy restricting travel and participation in conferences in Arizona.”

This panic about Arizona’s immigration law, the same one that compelled all the threats to boycott Arizona, generated a back lash from Arizona. They said that they would not come to California.  They would not come to California as they always do.  They would not spend the typical millions of dollars in California while on their vacations.

The  students and more importantly their parents  realized that the  school board members may have hoof and mouth disease. Were they  taking this stance on an out of State law even if it may impact the School Board budget? The same budget that is dependent on California’s tax base.  Hence the foot into the mouth.

It seems that the board didn’t think things through and remember that in politics “what goes around, comes around” .  It’s the first law of nature that even an 11th grader learns when running for class president.

Comedian Paul Rodriguez realized this and was forced to acknowledge that his threat to boycott an appearance in Arizona would reduce his income if he missed his appearance.  He did his show.

Most people of average intelligence realize that the Arizona immigration law is not going to stop more than a half-dozen tourists whether traveling into California or going into Arizona.  Everyone knows this except those who made the threats to stop interstate travel.

And so for the unforeseeable future we will be forced to hear all the blah, blah, blah rhetoric coming from our politicians. The more desperate they are to get their name in print, the more prone they are to put their feet into their pie hole.  They are as a political lynch mob, running around making idle threats without considering the consequences.

These are the people who are running and getting elected to political office. The same people we trust with our children and our pocket books.
